Instructions for classic Outlook on the web At the top of the page, select Settings Options. In the Options pane, select Mail Automatic processing Reply settings. In Reply settings, choose the option you prefer. Start Outlook and open New Email or use Reply, Reply All or Forward options for any existing email opened in a new window. Move to the Options tab on the ribbon and click Direct Replies To: In the Properties window that will open, change the email address in the field Have replies sent to: Now you will see that the button Direct Replies To is.

In the September 2015 update of 'Outlook on the web', users have noticed that the default reply setting has changed from 'reply' to 'reply all'. This could cause users to inadvertently reply to all users in an email thread when they intended to reply to the sender.

To reply or forward the message, you must click on the down arrow next to this action and select the desired action:

  1. Click the Settings gear icon and then click Mail under 'Your app settings'.
  2. If not already expanded, click to expand the 'Mail' section.
  3. Expand the 'Automatic processing' section.
  4. Click Reply settings.
  5. Select the 'Reply' setting and click Save.
  6. Return to your Outlook screen. The default action will now be Reply.
